Good Luck Team Wales
This is Kasumi at the recent Welsh Ladies Amateur Championship at Radyr Golf Club, achieving her first Hole in One on the 12th hole.
Kasumi was the Valentine Plate semi finalist and only lost out to Glamorgan’s Darcy Harry by one hole. Carys was the Championship semi finalist, but just lost to Ffion Tynan for the Final. Superb efforts by our 2 C & P girls, whilst Ffion Evans was not quite as lucky and lost to fellow Newport Links club member Carys in the Championship round. Denise Edwards and junior Hollie Jenkins were our other C & P members, who also participated in the Medal round. A good turnout from our county. Well done to all!
On Wednesday 30th May the C & P Junior Girls’ Spring Meeting took place, which is a Medal format. Some squally showers affected play on the day, but 3 girls braved the elements. All girls have shown improved skills in their game, from last year.
Maisie Millichip (32 h’cp) from Milford Haven Golf Club was the winner of the new Principality Spring Meeting Shield, only beating Glyn Abbey Golf Club’s Celyn Griffiths (36 h’cp) on countback over the last 6 holes. In third place was Dwynwen Holgate (15 h’cp) from Cardigan Golf Club.
Thanks to County Coach Gavin for doing the presentation and providing the girls with course information on the day, Max in the Pro Shop for his help and prizes, as well as County Press Officer Olivia Martin for photos.
Although there was a shower on the last hole for the final group, it was a dry day for the 6 C & P girls to play their annual match, a home fixture against the 3 Glamorgan girls, at Derllys Court Golf Club on Friday 1st June. The format was Individual Stableford with the best 3 scores to count for the team score. C & P girls won just by 2 points – 101 to 99 – a closely contested win. Morgan Mellin from Neath Golf Club took the prize for Best Individual Score on the day with 40 points. Great friendships were made and the girls were keen to meet up and play again socially.
The C & P girls were Kasumi (5 h’cp) (Team Captain for the day), Dwynwen (15 h’cp), Marni (17 h’cp), Nel (29 h’cp) Seren (30 h’cp) and Celyn (36 h’cp). Maisie (32 h’cp) was absent, owing to sickness on Thursday night.
Get well soon Maisie!
Glamorgan Girls’ Team Captain Ffion gave an excellent speech and C & P’s Team Captain Kasumi had an equally good response. In fact, the owners of Derllys Court club were very impressed with the way that the girls conducted themselves throughout the day!
Many thanks to Rhian, her family and the green keepers for looking after Julie, the girls and myself so well. Thanks to Honorary Vice President Ruth and President Ros for popping into see us too.
